To Act Together…People of Faith Connecting to Change Lives and Strengthen Community. What the Council Does: Janus House Center he Council operates the only 24-hour crisis intervention, support services and respite care in the Greater Bridgeport area for youth ages 11-17.
Faith in Community: Hunger Outreach. The Council provides support services to a network of more than 30 local congregations and community groups operating
food kitchens, pantries and mobile units, and works to find long-term solutions to the problem of hunger in our community. Bridge Building brings diverse
people together around common values and concerns to encourage collaboration. Project Learn: The Council offers the only after-school program in Bridgeport with an emphasis on academics, providing homework help and recreation to school children ages 6 through 13. CO-OP Center: The Center works on guiding adults from incarceration back to the community. Volunteers are welcome in all the Council’s programs.

The Community Service Fund provides stopgap funding to the poor, the elderly and to agencies when there is no other funding source. Money goes to rent, fuel, utilities and security deposits for apartments. They serve those falling through the cracks. Typical assistance per family is usually less than $500 and may make all the difference in whether a family becomes homeless.

The Norwalk Emergency Shelter provides safe, sanitary shelter care to homeless men, women and families; assists shelter residents in searching for housing, jobs, counseling and treatment; and fosters residents’’ growth toward independence and responsibility. In addition to providing emergency shelter, the Norwalk Emergency Shelter operates a breakfast lunch and dinner Soup Kitchen called “Manna House of Hospitality,” serving 12,000 meals per month.
