Centering Prayer

When: Tuesdays, 6:15 – 7:00 pm (through June 19)
Where: Church Office, SCC Ministry Center, 1175 Post Road East, Westport

Are you searching for something more in your life? Perhaps this is progress on your spiritual journey. Join others for centering prayer… as we find meaning and freedom in the still place within. We gather for Centering Prayer each Tuesday evening at 6:15 to 7:00 through June 19. Basic introduction to Centering Prayer practice is conducted beforehand, every Tuesday at 6:00. Saugatuck Church Ministry Center, 1175 Post Road East (first floor). Curious? Questions? Call Frank Basler, Saugatuck Church member, at 203-345-568

Bible Study

When: Wednesdays, September – June, 10:00 AM.
Where: Church Office, SCC Ministry Center, 1175 Post Road East, Westport

This long-established group meets to consider and discuss selected passages from the New Testament or the “Old,” informed and guided by the learning of Pastor Alison, who leaves ample room for enlightening discussion with all voices heard and respected. For many participants, this is a high point of their church week, second only to Sunday worship. All are welcome — no prior bible study experience is needed.

Healing Vespers

When: Fourth Wednesday of the month, 7:00PM

A quiet time of grounding prayer, meditation, mutuality and healing for men and women who yearn to encounter the holy more deeply and experience the healing power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Many are finding participation of transcendent significance in their personal spiritual journeys. All are welcome! The group meets each month at the home of Rev. Bonnie Brown. Contact Anne Patterson for more information: 227-1126.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

We make shawls filled with loving and healing prayers for anyone who is experiencing a difficult period in their lives, or for special celebrations. It is a joy to knit a prayer shawl, a joy to give one, and a joy to receive one. If you know of someone in the congregation or related to someone in the congregation who is in need of this special form of prayer, please let the church office know.

The Saugatuck Men's Group

The Saugatuck Men’s Group

When: Thursday mornings, 8:00AM

Hot coffee, fresh goodies and lively conversation are the main ingredients for these informal Thursday morning gatherings. Participants often bring something to share – a news article, a poem, a passage from Scripture, a life situation – that may provide a springboard for discussion. Men who smile easily, or who want to, or who are having trouble smiling just now, will all find kindred spirits. Come and bring a friend!

Since we are unable to meet in our church, Elwood has graciously agreed to host our group at his home. His address can be found in our Church Directory or by contacting the church office.

For more information, contact Craig Matheson

EarthCare / EarthShare

When: First Wednesday of each month*

Saugatuck’s EarthCare/EarthShare group, which usually meets on the first Wednesday of each month, sponsors discussions and panel presentations pertaining to environmental responsibility and the church’s stewardship of the earth.

EarthCare/EarthShare sponsors Earth Day celebrations each year, and involves the Christian Education group in hands-on activities, including taking part in the annual International Coastal Cleanup for the Saugatuck River.

The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God's handiwork.

'The Heretic's Daughter' by Kathleen KentJoin us for our summer book group!

When: Wednesday, July 10th, 7:00PM

We are reading:

The Lifeboat by Westport author Charlotte Rogan. Rogan explores moral ambiguity, human nature and the psychology of manipulation in the confines of a lifeboat at sea.

We are meeting:

Wednesday, July 10th, 7:00pm in the garden of our very own church. Bring your own chair, and a glass of wine (or water) if you wish!

The Westport library will have the book available. Questions? Email Lois Himes.

“Impressive, harrowing first novel...[Grace] narrates the book with panache - and a good dose of unreliability... Rogan writes viscerally about the desperate condition of the castaway... But it's her portrait of Grace, who is by turns astute, conniving, comic and affecting, that drive the book.... As Rogan proves with this indelible character, there's a profound truth and even beauty in Grace's degree of self-loyalty.”

— Sarah Towers, New York Times Book Review

“[Grace Winter is] a gratifyingly complex character who narrates this dazzling psychological drama.”

The Wall Street Journal

An eerie, powerful debut you'll want to race through, but try to resist the urge. A slower read reveals a psychological depth that'll leave you thinking."

— People Magazine
