Saugatuck EarthCare/EarthShare:

Come and Eat and Talk.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

We are gathering this Wednesday at 6:00 pm at the church. Sandwich supper served as we discuss plans for Saugatuck's Earth Day celebration this spring. (Stay tuned for an update on meeting location within the church.) After a sandwich, those who want can attend the following program at the Westport Library.

There is an amazing program at the library on Wednesday January 5th: Dr. James Hansen. This man is the hero of Climate Change work. He heads up Columbia University's Earth Institute, but is most famous as the head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. He has been an amazing advocate for action on Climate Change.

Dr. James Hansen brought global warming to the world’s attention in the 1980s, when he first testified before Congress. With his background in both space and earth sciences, he has a broad perspective on the status and prospects of our home planet. In Storms of My Grandchildren, he presents a comprehensible, realistic, and courageous call to prevent climate change. Hansen is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, an adjunct professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University and at Columbia’s Earth Institute, and the director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
