Abby Peterson, Church School Director

Abby Peterson is our Church School Director. Abby grew up in Westport and has been a member of Saugatuck Congregational Church since 1982. She has served in many roles at Saugatuck, including membership on the Church Council, the Board of Deacons, the Board of Christian Education (chairing this board twice) and has sung in the choir.  She has also organized and led the children's Choir Club program at Saugatuck for 12 years and has served on the executive board of the Saugatuck Nursery School.
    Professionally, Abby has taught children in some capacity since 1980.  Originally an upper grades teacher she switched to Early Education in 1982 when her oldest child (Katie) arrived on the scene.  Abby has successfully operated a small, private Pre-K program teaching 2 and 3 year old children since 1982.  In 1993, she received her Masters Degree in Early Education and continues teaching today.
    "I am thrilled with the opportunity to serve Saugatuck Church as the Church School Director.  I have been given a tremendous opportunity to lead our fantastic volunteer teaching staff into a new phase of Christian Education.  There is so much wonderful material for Christian Educators today, very different than when I was starting out.  I am anxious to bring fantastic resources to our teachers."
    "Connections" is the theme for our teaching staff this year.  Abby will find ways for our teachers to connect with their students, the parents, and each other. Abby is married to Brad Peterson, a onetime Director of Youth Music at Saugatuck Church, and is the mother of their 3 children, Katie, Sarah, and Scott.
