Welcome!

We joyously welcome all visitors! In this section we have tried to answer some of the questions you might have about attending one of our Sunday services for the first time. If you have any additional questions, or if you wish to speak to our Pastor, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Field of Flags at Saugatuck Congregational Church

Where are you?

We are located in the heart of Westport, at 245 Post Road East. Click here for directions.

Where do we park?

We have a spacious parking lot in back of our church. After parking, you can either walk around to the front door, or enter through the back through the doors on the right. There is usually a greeter at the back door who will direct you to the Sanctuary, but if not, simply walk up the half flight of stairs, straight through the double doors and down the hall to the Sanctuary.

From May 30th until November 21st, please be aware that we will be sharing our rear parking lot with the Sunday Farmer's Market, so if you attend the 10:30 AM service the parking lot is likely to be busier when you leave than when you came in. (It is, however, a wonderful opportunity to pick up some fresh local produce and other goods after the service!)

Story Tent Rehersal at Saugatuck Congregational Church

Is there a dress code?

You are welcome to wear whatever you like. Our members tend to dress "business casual" — slacks / skirts / sweaters / open-neck shirts / jackets.

Is there anything we need to do when we are visiting?

We'd like you to take one of our "Visitor's Packets" which will contains information about our church. These silver folders can be found in the narthex (the foyer as you enter through the front door). Also, any greeter or usher would be happy to get one for you.

Please fill out the green "Visitor's Card" located in each pew, and in the Visitor's Packet. Just place your card in the collection plate, or hand it to any usher or greeter, so we'll know that you've been here.

Please wear one of the blue "Visitor" name tags, so we can greet you by name. (We encourage our members to wear their nametags, as well.)

Children's Choir at Saugatuck Congregational Church

What about our children?

We joyfully welcome your children to our church!

From September through June, while Church School is in session, the children will leave the service for their assigned classrooms. (Classes for 3- to 5-year-olds are held in the part of our church used by the Saugatuck Nursery School where they can explore in a completely age-appropriate environment.) On your first visit, you can accompany your child to the classroom, and then return to the service.

At the end of the service, just pick up your child in the classroom and head down to Hoskins Hall for our Fellowship Hour.

What if my child is too young for Church School?

During the 10:30 AM service, we have a well-equipped "Crib Room" with experienced childcare providers to handle newborn infants to children up to age 3. To reach the Crib Room, enter through the right-hand back doors; go down the half-flight of stairs and the room is immediately on your left. (Any of our greeters or ushers will also be happy to direct you.) You are also welcome to keep your infant or child with you in the sanctuary during the service.

Childcare is available year-round at the 10:30 AM service.

How long do your services last?

Our 10:30AM service typically runs slightly over an hour; our 8:00 AM service (which occurs from September – June) usually about 50 minutes. For more information about our services, please click here.

Will I have a chance to meet people?

Fellowship Hour in Hoskins Hall at Saugatuck Congretational Church

Each Sunday after the 10:30 AM service we have Fellowship Hour downstairs in Hoskins Hall, and we welcome you to come join us! This is a great time to meet friends and members of our congregation and learn more about our church. (This is also a good time to be wearing your blue "Visitor" name tag.)

Is your church wheelchair accessible?

Yes. As you drive into our driveway — before you enter the rear parking lot — there are handicapped parking spaces on the right, next to our building. The nearby door there leads to an elevator; go to the upper level ("UL") floor to get to our Sanctuary. To reach Hoskins Hall for Fellowship Hour after the 10:30 AM service, simply take the same elevator down to the lower level ("LL").

How do I become a member of your church?

We are always delighted to welcome new members! Throughout the year, our Pastor periodically leads informal informational sessions after the 10:30 AM service for anyone seeking more information about joining our congregation. (He is also happy to meet with potential members privately, by appointment.) Please feel free to ask Jim Goodenough, co-chair of our Membership Committee, or any member, for more information.

Any more questions?

Just call the Church office at 203-227-1261.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR VISIT!
